Advanced Material Development has confirmed that Dr Izabela Jurewicz had joined its management team following her recent UKRI Future Leadership Fellowship award.

Dr Jurewicz will be AMD’s Chief Scientific Officer and based at its Guildford Main Office on the Surrey Research Park.

Jurewicz was formerly a lecturer in Soft Matter Physics at the University of Surrey and leader of the IRIS Group (Interdisciplinary Research on Interface Structures).

In October, AMD won a £1.6mln government award in partnership with Dr Jurewicz to build on her work in photonic crystals. The scientist has been working as an advisor to the company.

In a statement, John Lee, AMD’s chief executive, said: “Although we have been working with Izabela and her team at the University of Surrey for over two years, her transition into a full-time position with AMD under the tremendous support of the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship Fund is a transformative event for the company and I believe she will be a huge boost to our R&D efforts, particularly in the more advanced engineering and prototyping aspects that are so important when developing R&D emanating from the University laboratories.”
