Slovakia has become the second European country to announce a full lockdown, with Germany and the Netherlands tipped to follow suit shortly.
Slovakia, which currently has the world’s highest infection rate, announced a two-week lockdown to curb the spiralling cases of the virus.
Austria confirmed a 10-day lockdown this Monday, with Germany seemingly likely to follow suit after the number deaths in the country due to Covid-19 rose above 100,000.
Airlines have had a bumpy ride this week due to fears another bout of flying restrictions are on the way just as the industry was beginning to recover and consumers were starting to travel once again.
Some airlines have cancelled flights, with Jet2 cancelling its flights and holidays to Austria until at least 1 December.
EasyJet currently has some flights booked into Austria for December, although that could change should restrictions remain in place.
Wizz Air, which is the most focused of the London-listed airlines on central Europe, and Ryanair are the main budget airlines that fly to Slovakia from the UK.
Shares in Wizz Air rose 1.2% to 4,406p and Ryanair by 1.2% to EUR15.90.
